The first thing that impressed me when starting this graphic novel was the artwork. Oh my god jumping mushrooms this is amazing! Cheers for the artist for managing to create such a wonderful and magical environment. The story seems a bit fairy-tale-ish but overall is not bad, and the whole read left me with a pretty satisfying feeling in the end. My only problem was related to the speech bubbles and other comic book elements used by the designer. They didn’t match the style of the rest of the book.

This story is recommended for young adult/fantasy readers that are, of course, into graphic novels as well.

I was excited about this one. Nah, ok, you’re right. I wasn’t THAT excited. Just a little bit. However, I wanted a nice story especially since the previous book was pretty awesome. But this?? 40% boredom, 60% bullsh*t. I ended up skimming most of it.

Yes, this means that the next one won’t even be on my “to-read” shelf.

Seriously now, being in a relationship with this dude would be a nightmare. But I have to admit he’s fun as hell. He and I share some similar opinions on life and people.

Apparently, he’d killed so many family members that he must have significantly affected the Lore’s population. Doing my part for the environment.

How can’t you admire a person like him? You actually can’t at times. The bastard got me so angry I could punch a wall. Oh wait.

Anyway, Lothaire was loads of fun! One of my favourite moments was the organ/body part exchange. It’s bit of a spoiler probably but nothing too important.

Wow, now that was rather… disturbing. I fell for the pretty cover and thought this will be something entirely different. I’m sad to say I couldn’t even finish it. This book is not for me. If you can handle nudity, rape, incest and so on, you can go ahead and give it a try. If you thought, it will be a nice story filled with, I don’t know, love and butterflies then I suggest you look the other way.

I’m totally clueless right now. I have to write a review for this, and I have no idea what to say.

I’m not really into Greek gods and all, but this was rather… educational? I mean it’s a good read for your general knowledge and if you like these stories you’ll probably enjoy this graphic novel. The illustrations are extremely pleasant, and the whole thing is very easy to read. The printed version will probably be even better.

Why did I choose this if I’m not into these stories? I thought it will be a more action-filled book and less of a “history lesson." Hades is creepy and I always loved him, so I thought everything will go bloody. He was too good. He didn’t even kill anyone!

However, again, I need to say that this is not really my thing thus my score. I'm totally neutral about it.

My other thoughts are verging between ugh idiot, duh, gah and pass the jelly.

Imagine you have a cold. But not a normal cold. It’s one of those bad ones where you have to drown in antibiotics and syrup. You know the feeling you get when you are eating something, and you can’t feel its taste? You look at the people you’re sharing the meal with and see them moan in pleasure because the food is so delicious. Don’t you feel like stabbing them in the eye with your fork because they can feel it, but you can’t? That’s exactly how I feel about The Shadow Reader.

My main issue is (as you surely guessed) the freaking love triangle. I’m not going to play the pick your side game. Again. Why are all authors using this damn love triangle theme? I really don’t get it. It’s unoriginal and boring, and it will turn the book into this as well. What’s so hard to get? It made the book too frustrating to the point of wanting to throw it out of the window to taste some of the acid rain I’m having right now. The fact that it’s an e-book, and that I’ve read it on my Kindle (which I love at the moment), kept me from doing it.

Anyway, I fail to see where McKenzie is badass, she’s more of a typical YA heroine. The Shadow Reader was supposed to be a YA; they probably mixed up the genres somehow. Which reminds me… this book is so f*cking predictable! I knew how it was going to end since chapter 10. Not. Cool.

In the end Naito was my favorite character. I’d maybe read the next book for his sake only. But I won’t. To the spam shelf with you!

This here’s Maggie, our dearest heroine.

Then we have Lloyd and Zander (aka the twins). They have a major love/hate thing going on.

And the overly talented Daniel!

He’s actually a zombie hunter. But don’t tell anyone!

And last but not least, the coolest people around the block! My newest BFF, Lucy.

And her brother (and my newest crush) Alistair.

And let’s not forget the persistent stalker ghost who keeps on popping up in the strangest places!

Sum all these elements up and you get an amazingly fun graphic novel. It became my addiction and I’m close to stalking the author in order to know the publishing date for the next one because I need to have more of the gang! Undoubtedly five stars!

I don't know what I had in mind when I requested Any Empire. That it would be a cruel but yet funny comic book? That it would be about some kids having the adventure of their lives? Maybe. Nevertheless, I have to tell you that I'm awfully disappointed.

The look of the book is amazing; the art is beautiful and the inking is very well done. My problem doesn't lie here though. It's the story that made me not enjoy reading the novel. It's cruel and very strange. I reached a point when I was simply scrolling and looking at the images just for the sake of completing it.

I don't know who I would recommend this graphic novel to. I sincerely have no idea. If you're curious though, you can give it a try. Who knows, maybe you'll like it.

Courtney Crumrin and The Night Things is one of those graphic novels that catches your attention from page one. The artwork is amazing through its simplicity; the characters are unique, and the story is fascinating.

I really got attached to Courtney, and I’ll admit that I’m jealous of her. I wish I could live in her world... Any person should have his or her own monster buddies, don’t you think?

My only problem was the lack of coloring that started since page 36. However, since the story is truly amazing this didn’t decrease the quality of the novel. I’m honestly looking forward to reading more of this series.

I’m sorry I’ll f*ck this one up Madu. I tried to like it but… I didn’t O_O

So the question of the day is: what is The Wedding Bargain about? Even an idiot can answer this question. Yes, it’s about a freakin’ wedding bargain. However, let me tell you the story in a better way. Behold the dialogue!

Max: I love you Pandora, you’re the hottest girl out there. Let’s get married!

Pandora: No Max, you’re an idiot, and I hate you. I want a hero. You’re gay.

M: Even so, we’re meant to be together. We’re soul mates. I’ve already knitted matching socks for both of us. We’ll wear them while making love so that our feet will be nice and warm. This way we’ll avoid thinking about how stupid and cold we are.

P: No Max, I don’t want to marry you. Yes, I think you’re hot, and I touch myself at night while thinking about you, but I still won’t marry you.

M: Hey Pandora, how about I stick my tongue down your throat and touch your privates. Would you want me then?

P: *gasps* Oh Max I love you now! Let’s make our genitals touch so we could always remember this special moment!

M: On second thought... You seemed hotter with your clothes on. Score on seeing you naked! Wait until my friends hear about this!

P: *cries* Daaaaad Max is making fun of me again!

That’s probably how I look while reading the wonderful books that belong to the Historical Romance genre. And I’ve always wondered why people stare at me in a strange way while I’m reading these in public. Now I have my answer.

You know what would make HRs ~~more~~ fun? Dinosaurs!

Now that would be a book I’d read!

Anyway, The Wedding Bargain is a very boring book. Idiotic even. But Pandora does own a pistol. That would make it more exciting, right?

I have another point to add. I really hate this thing they’re always using in these books. He was the most eligible bachelor. The most handsome and most virile. And he had the hots for only one extremely annoying and boring woman: our heroine. Guess what? This only happens in the mind of naive girls who are still expecting Prince Charming on a white horse to sweep them off their feet and elope or something. Well guess what? Sh*t like this doesn’t happen. These dudes will never waste time on normal girls. They’re overly busy banging bimbos and porn stars, getting drunk and high, and spending money on horribly expensive things. So quit daydreaming about this sh*t because you’re too old for it!

*ugh* totally stupid useless god give me patience with these books!!! *ugh*

I wasn’t extremely impressed with this. My problem was mainly the story being quite predictable, a bit boring and to be honest also silly. Maybe it would work for a teenage girl. If you want an action-packed comic book, then you should probably avoid reading it.

So this being the bad let’s move to the positive stuff. I think the graphics were pretty decent, the only thing that was missing being the coloring. I guess that would give the whole novel a better personality and would probably make it more amiable.

I finished this in about an hour in between work, so I don't think it was such a waste of time. It's worth giving a try if you have some free time.

So check this out. One day I was just browsing through netGalley. As you know, most of the books there are cheesy, weird or sucky. Usually I go through the Sci-Fi/Fantasy category because from time to time it gets some cool stuff. Anyway, so I’m going through this, and I see a wonderful fiery cover. And I say what the hell, request the b*tch! So yeah, my main reason for reading this is the damn cover. Congrats cover artist! You managed to trick me!

It could have been worse. At least I enjoyed the book. Yes, my kids, it’s a good book. Follow me if you want to ~~live~~ get more rambling about it.

What can I say about Firelight? My notes are a mess so I’m trying to make the best of it. The first thing I noticed when starting the book is Kristen Callihan’s amazing-omg-drop-dead writing style. I mean whoaaaaah. Really really impressive! Just check this out:

His green house. A little glass jewel hidden away on the roof of the house. The rain rattled hard upon the glass, streaking and pebbling, hiding the world from view. It was kinder here, warm and humid. Filled with potted fruit trees and velvet roses, their fresh scent as thick as the air.

And

Emptiness pressed upon him as he made his way home. He wanted to collapse, crumple into a helpless ball against the pain of it. Murder tainted his skin and pounded through his veins like a drug, whispering for more; he was losing the battle.

If you’re not impressed then gtfo because these here are some mouth-watering quotes!

And speaking of mouth-watering let me introduce you to Lord Archer. Or Lord Benjamin Aldo Fitzwilliam Wallace Archer, Fifth Baron Archer of Umberslade to be precise.

She lifted her eyes to his face, or where it ought to be. Carved with a Mona Lisa smile upon its lips, a black hard mask like one might wear at Carnival stared back. Beneath the mask, his entire head was covered in tight black silk, offering not a bit of skin to view.

And the Phantom

He goes more towards the Phantom is you ask me. There are actually many similarities between these two characters. Plus I liked to imagine Archer as Gerald’s version of the Phantom. *sighs*

The man in the black mask seemed to stand alone, apart from everything.

His voice was a phantom, haunted and alone.

“I don’t want pity.” He glared at the stern visage of the Greek centaur before them. “I’d rather have fear.”

I have a thing for ugly scarred guys. I think beauty is overrated. Sue me.

I have only one problem with Archer. He makes me go like this

Everybody lies. And many freaky things are going on. I wanted answers and I wasn’t getting them.

What is he? Hulk? Is he a god who got banished on earth for seducing a virgin? A mighty hero reborn a century too late? Is he an alien from a distant planet? Or the soul of the planet itself set free to kill as many people as possible in order to avoid the creation of the vile killer plastic? Save the seagulls! Destroy all the plastic!

Wtf are you Archer?? Tell me now!

*clears throat*

Uhm what else?

Miranda. Miss Miranda Ellis, firestarter extraordinaire. You have to admit that it has a nice ring to it. Too bad this element wasn’t put to proper use. It had a few good scenes, but I think it could have worked better than this. However, at least I admit that Miranda is not boring like the usual heroines you find in Historical Romances. I know I picked on this before, and I will never stop. I can’t stand chicks that run around hunting for a husband and waste all their day shopping or knitting or god knows what other stupid activities. Why would I want to read a story about that? So thank you Paranormal Romance for existing in this book. You made completing it without skimming, skipping or dnf-ing possible.

Why am I not giving this a higher score? Because something seems to be missing in the story. I didn’t feel happy with the ending, many things felt unfinished, and the epilogue was weird. But I’ll surely read the next book in the series. Kristen Callihan really impressed me, so I’ll be ~~stalking~~ reading her stuff asap.

Cassandra Clare did it again! She single-handedly managed to bore me to death!

I don’t want to sound like a crybaby (and I will try my best not to) but Clockwork Prince gets the Disappointment Award of 2011. After seeing so many 5-star reviews (I will never learn, will I?) I had so many high hopes. Since it happened with A Monster Calls why wouldn’t it with this one also? Maybe because Patrick Ness is a good author and Cassandra Clare isn’t. I’m just saying.

My expectations weren’t that high by the way. I was just looking for a great adventure filled with good characters, emotional moments and a bit of love. And speaking of love, I was praying not to have a love triangle. But I’ll get to that later.

The beginning of Clockwork Prince is BORIIING! But hey I managed to get through it thinking that it’s just a prologue to the total awesomeness that everyone is talking about.

Guess what?

It isn’t.

The whole f*cking book is boring. Oooor… at least the percentage I managed to finish. I wasn’t skipping pages. Oooooh no, I was skipping chapters. Whole chapters full of useless blabbering. I even failed to identify the damn story. Should I check the summary to find it out or what?

Oooh and wait ‘till you hear this! The bad dude’s parents are dead and he blames it on the Shadowhunters. Not all people dress as bats and fight crime during the night after their parents got killed. Nu-huuuh. They go chasing young girls in order to marry them. In the name of science! That’s just creepy! He wants her for her powers. Bullsh*t, just ask Pedobear why he wants her.

Anyway my point is that this part of the story seems a weeee bit unoriginal. They’re looking for Mortmain for like 25% of the book and all of the sudden Jem gets a sudden, but silly, idea and what do you know? He was right. Next thing you know the damn Joker will be in the book killing people. Not that I would mind it or anything.

And speaking of unoriginal, am I the only one who thinks that this series is too similar to The Mortal Instruments? I know they’re related but it feels like the characters and plot have too many similarities.

But it could be just me.

Or not.

And another problem now.

I simply can’t get myself o like Tessa. I have no idea why and I won’t waste my time even trying to find a reason. I’ll leave it like that. Tessa meh, Jem meh, Will cool when he’s not too emo (obviously Cassandra Clare has a thing for tortured heroes), and Magnus yum when he’s not gay.

The ~~nonexistent~~ story meh, the villain meh.

I want more creepy contraptions running around killing people. I want more blood and suffering. I want less teenage drama. If I wanted teenage drama I’d turn on the TV on Thursdays and watch The Vampire Diaries. So please cut the crap.

And so we reach my final, and worst, problem. The love triangle. Probably every teenage girl’s wet dream is to have two hot guys fight over her. Freakin’ losers. I hate hate HATE love triangles and hate the stupid girls who love them even more. This was the thing that made me stop reading the book and the series as well.

So goodbye The Infernal Devices! Don’t let the door hit you in the ass.

Forbidden Magic is another book that will end up in the trash. Or cut into little tiny pieces. Or a pillow for a homeless person.

Why? Good question my friend. Forbidden Magic is similar to playing a RPG game on beginner mode. Everything is just too easy.

Kid: Hey look mom! *wiggles fingers* I just opened a black hole that’s going to eat the planet and kill us all!
Mom: Great work dear. Now come on in, dinner’s getting cold.

In the next moment she ran her hand down in the air before her face, drawing a glamour around herself and disappearing from human sight.

Biting her lower lip in concentration, Silver flicked one finger in the air, sending her magic to do her bidding. In the next second she heard the rusty scrape of metal against wood as the latch unfastened.

Just like watching The Disney Channel. Add the typical lust at first sight and we have a cheesy book!

He was one of the most gorgeous men she'd ever seen. A man who made her heart pound, and fire burn in her blood.

I swear I’ll stop continuing any book that has this lust at first sight crap in it. I’m just sick of it!

Another thing that bothered me is the unoriginality of the story and environment. Everything is typical! It’s a sad boring book. And the author is actually trying her best to add depth to the story. Ooooooh yes, she tries so hard. Information Overflow Achievement unlocked!

I actually couldn’t even skim the book till the end. That’s how sad it is. And disgustingly pornographic.

Before I forget. If any chick (witch or whatever) mentions the word “Goddess” during fear, worry, surprise or awe I will punch the b*tch in the face.

A bunch of self-loathing funny talking drug addicts being chased by evil red eyed ghosts in a dirty religionless futuristic city. Nicotine, drugs, ghosts and a freakin’ love triangle. Hip hip hurrah!

This book was very difficult for me to read because of my lack of interest in all of these things. It’s just weird. I actually like weird things, there’s nothing more entertaining than watching a bunch of crazy people wearing their underwear over their heads and acting like The Avengers. Downside Ghosts is weird in an omg wtf kind of way. But people like it so good for them. Me? Meh. Not my kind of series.

Yes that means that I won’t give it a second chance.

The monster showed up just after midnight. As they do.

I‘ve been ~~stalking~~ looking for A Monster Calls for quite a while. All those great reviews got to my head and I was so damn curious to see what all the fuss was about.

And then I finally got the hardcover.

And then I started reading it.

And then holy f*ck mother that is good and shiny. Wtf is this book??? I’m being mindraped. I have no words to express my feelings. I guess this will do

This book looks amazing. It’s actually one of the best looking books I’ve ever seen. The artist is a freakin’ genius! So please, for your sake, don’t you dare buy the version without illustrations! Don’t you freakin’ dare!

Apart from the extra stars that I was going to give A Monster Calls only for its looks we have the heartbreaking story. You would think this is a horror book. I know I did. And I was wrong! It’s actually a very good lesson on human nature and such a wonderful experience. So if you’re a pansy (don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone) you have nothing to fear. You can go ahead and throw all those flashlights and broom handles that were supposed to defend you against the Boogeyman. But get your tissues ready.

Anyway, I’ll try not to ramble or make too many noises. My review ends here. All I have to add is that this book is stunning and buying it was one of the best decisions I’ve made this year. Five stars are not enough for rating it.

I’d like to thank my wonderful fiancé for giving me this book as a gift. It is AMAZING. The stories are not the most interesting things on the surface of the planet but the artwork is badass. I’m a big fan of David Hartman and I have to say that I wasn’t disappointed. Plus a foreword by Rob Zombie. Rob-freakin’-Zombie! Big fan of him also. See how easy I am to buy? Goddammit!

I’m doing the next thing for the people who don’t know how the book goes.

I’ve been waiting for months for Immortal Rider. I kept on stalking Larissa Ione’s blog, me being such a big fan and all, watching her news, avoiding spoilers and so on. Finally I managed to get the book and the time to read it.

The question of the day would be: Am I happy with this book? Was it everything I was hoping for? Did I do the happy dance after finishing it?

Nah, hold your horses people, of course I’m not done with ~~f*cking up~~ reviewing the book. Of course I have to ramble about it for at least 15 minutes. That’s the way I work.

What is my problem you ask? First of all the story sucks balls. Yes, balls. Listen to this:

We have a little horseperson, Limos. She’s a badass warrior who dresses like a Hawaian reject and always smells like coconut. I presume so far that even her sweat smells like coconut. I didn’t want to get into intimate details with this so let’s just stop with sweat. Ok so she meets the hot dude Arik. He’s a human of course. You will never have two badass warriors hooking up; things would be too easy then. No fun in things being too easy. So after they kiss the dude ends up in Hell and gets tortured for a month. He escapes and forgives the chick just because she’s hot. Bla bla bla flirting oral sex bla bla bla. Then we find out that (I’ll put this in bold because it’s priceless) she is wearing a chastity belt and only her husband can remove it. The funny thing is that this is not the best part of it. Hold on, I’m getting to it. So apart from the chastity belt

we have the following: she is betrothed to Satan (yes, freakin’ Satan) and he wants her fresh and untouched. You guessed it right. UNTOUCHED. AKA a virgin. So she needs someone to take away her maidenhood and save her from being raped by Satan.

Ok so after you’ve read this what’s your opinion on Immortal Rider? I don’t know if I should laugh or cry. I mean this is a joke! I can’t process it… *facepalm*

Second (remember the first - up there somewhere), the characters suck. Limos is not my favorite horseman and Arik is just… meh. Nothing special about him, don’t like him don’t hate him. He just exists. Period.

So sucky story and meh characters = bad book and me punching a kid in the face. See what you made me do Mrs. Ione? See what you made me do??

*clears throat*

So yeah, saying that I’m having issues with this book is an understatement.

There’s actually something I liked about Immortal Rider and if I’m not wrong I said this about Eternal Rider as well. I loved Wraith, Thanatos and (surprisingly) Regan. They’re the main reason for me not giving it two stars.

So the conclusion? I’m totally neutral about this. I won’t say I hate it because I still like Larissa Ione but it’s the last chance I’m giving her. One more ~~mistake~~ book like this and I’m blowing everything up!

I was actually planning to enjoy this, you know. Maybe even compare it to Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ books. Laugh a bit, wipe a tear from my eye, that sort of thing. What did I get? Anger and a bad case of bleeding eyes!

What have I become? Reading a book because it’s all over Goodreads and IMDB. And using a Disney gif for that matter. Cheap bastard. I actually saw this is the best novels list or something like that so ha! Take this people who judge me! I am not cheap! I just think that lists and people who make them are cool!

I liked the book in the beginning because it felt unique and fascinating. Then I got close to its half and it got full of drama. Useless boring drama. And I’m talking mostly about Mikael and Cecilia (I guess that’s her name. Damn you Swedish names!! I’m having a tough time remembering you!). The drama I actually fell into was Lisbeth’s.

Speaking of my dear Lisbeth, she is one of the best (if not the best) female characters I’ve ever met so far. One, she’s a freakin’ genius. Two, I love her looks. Three, she’s badass. I liked her even more after she castrated the bitch who was raping her. And beat the sh*t out of that damn psycho rapist.

I love you Lisbeth!

Back to my point.

It’s not a perfect book; I would remove certain parts from it. That’s why I’m taking one star from the rating. BUT!

BUT it’s f*cking amazing. Stieg Larsson is sick and I need to read more of his books. Crazy Swedish people.

I’m so glad I didn’t wait for the movie to be out before starting this. It would probably make me love it less. The trailer has been out for a while and I have been trying my best to avoid watching it. I promised myself that I will watch it and check out pictures for the movie after I’m done with the book. I’m proud to say that I did it. I only knew that Daniel Craig will be playing Mikael Blomkvist. You just can’t miss it when this guy appears in a movie. It’s all over the place.

Thoughts before watching the movie’s trailer
▪ Daniel Craig is a strange choice but I can see him work around the role.
▪ Some parts are a bit too boring to be used in a movie so I’m curious to see how they’ll pull it off and how much of it will be changed/cut out.
▪ I want Lisbeth to be badass. I hope they choose a badass actress.

Thoughts after watching the trailer
▪ Daniel Craig is actually a very good choice.
▪ Lisbeth's image in the movie is waaaay creepier than what I had in mind. That’s probably why I can’t stop staring at her pictures.

▪ Bleached eyebrows. Damn, why didn’t I think of that?
▪ Loved the trailer. I’m really looking forward to this movie.

Personal thoughts that won’t be private after clicking the "save" button
▪ I’ve been reading this for a week. I hate taking so long to finish a book. But it was a fun distraction on the bus to Cairo. At least it kept me from watching those horrible Egyptian movies.
▪ Kitty killer, I will come for you and cut you. I will make it hurt.

Ugh this was supposed to be a good book! But of course I’m asking for too much.

I admit that I got this only because I’m in love with Emily and I felt ashamed for never actually reading one of her books. Plus our Goodreads group’s main image is of Emily. I like to have some insight on the stuff I use, you know.

So, what did I like? Emily’s sarcasm, the writing style, the book’s layout and all the cool images scattered all around.

What I didn’t like and what actually made me give it up? Boredom.Too much freakin’ boredom. I’m sorry but the story is not for me. I don’t know if it’s this book or the series itself, and frankly I’m not tempted to try another one, but the story is (forgive the pun) strange.

Soooo DNF my dear Emily. Things can never work out between us.

So why couldn’t she bring herself to like him? Because maybe somewhere deep inside her she still felt the need for speed. For excitement.

Uhm yes. Where do I begin?

You know those cheap books that are about the typical ~~love~~ sex story between the average looking woman looking for a lifetime commitment and the hottest guy on the planet running from it with all his might? Yes? Are you into them? No? Good. Then avoid this like Satan avoids holy water.

My problems with this book:
1. Cheesy
2. Painfully boring
3. Not funny
4. Terrible writing style
5. Stupid stupid stupid stupid

My reactions while reading Flat-Out Sexy

*omg my eyes started to burn*
*where’s the toilet paper?*

Other issues:
The chick is talking about her dead husband and the dude is trying his best to see what thongs she’s wearing. Since page 24.
Screwing from chapter two. Who needs a story anyway? Pornography pays very well.

Bottom line: horrible! Two chapters are enough for me.

Why??? You dare ask me why??? I’ll tell you why! Kids are soul sucking demons! They will make you hurt, mock you, steal your food and pee on your favorite carpet! Plus they drool and stink. They pull your hair, pee on you, and vomit on your great grandma’s ashes! Vile disgusting creatures…

*end of emotional breakdown*

So yes, the main reason for my score is this. The other reasons will come after this awesome gif of molested cats!

Now what did I like about this book? *scratches chin* I liked Mat because he shared my kid hatred and he had some pretty good lines. But in the end he fell in love with them (the loser) so he’s surely not my favorite character. Lucy (surprise surprise) was actually my favorite because she f*cked everyone off. I respect that in a person. I also liked the typical awesomeness of SEP’s writing but unfortunately the story didn’t get to me. And that’s it with the likes!

Dislikes? Nealy unfortunately didn’t work for me. She was just too.. what word to use? Blah? Meh? Close enough. Her child trauma (baby killer or whatever she called herself – wtf??) was stupid and her character wasn’t defined enough. Same goes to Mat actually.

The story was too homey, jolly, patriotic and boring. Sadly… it just had a nice romantic part at the end but it still didn’t do the trick for me.

So that’s it! The neutral score for this one: three severed children heads. Muahahahahaha!!!

First of all I have to say that I’m never reading a book like this. 10 days - what the hell? And postponing it made me forget certain things/ thoughts so eventually I ended up giving it the neutral score: three.

I’m not sure if the book was good for you guys but it was strange for me. Whenever I’d start reading Aftermath something would happen. Vampires Suck playing on HBO, my PC needing to be formatted or moving to another freakin’ country (true story)! So of course I had to postpone reading in order to fix these things. Just like moths to a flame…

The start caught up with the wonderful decision of Jax leaving everything behind. Again. I still don’t see the reason why she did that. Can someone please enlighten me? (Answer: “To carry word of the shift in grimspace, so she could save as many lives as possible.” – meh!) I see this whole matter as Jax complicating everything (as usual). I really used to like this chick but the last two books ruined it for me. She’s getting more and more annoying. But anyway, I think she deserves everything that’s coming her way since she asked for it. Too bad I’m not so interested in this anymore. I think I lost my love for this series so waiting for the last book won’t be so difficult. And I’m not going to be excited about it, this I’m sure. I’ll read it, find out how it ends and celebrate.

Back to the point. Of course Jax will do something stupid at the end of the book. It’s a habit now… Wait… *getting to the final chapter* What did I tell you?

“How can love be so magnificent and still hurt this much?”
“I don’t know. Over the turns, I’ve asked myself the same thing.”

Because you’re all stupid, that’s why. Sacrifice in the name of love? You’re doing it wrong!

“Jax … you know how I said … before your trial—that I’d be there waiting? I always will be. Five turns. Ten. Twenty. There’s no one else for me. I live in hope that there will come a time when you’ll need no more wandering, and you’ll come home to me.”

And yet she had the balls to leave him. Now I don’t know if she’s that strong or that stupid.

March was no good either. First his decision to go nephew hunting, then settling down (which probably came one book too early for Jax) and then declaring his eternal love to a woman who always dumps him. WTF?! You’re cool about it March? You’ll waste all your life waiting for someone who will never settle down with you?

What I liked the most about the book? Vel. Yes, he’s still my favorite. His story with Adele was touching and his loyalty to Jax is worthy of some respect. I say some because of not liking the puppy eyed pansy he’s becoming around Jax. I hope they won’t ruin him in Endgame…

P.S. Killing Doc and Evie like that was not cool. Bad move IMHO.

This was one of those books which were very difficult to rate/review. It started with an unimpressive intro and turned into something very interesting. Since it impressed me to a certain extent I’ll start by mentioning the good aspects. It has brilliant humor, it’s very deep, emotional and unique, and the main character is one of the most real protagonists I’ve met so far. Plus there are many secondary characters that caught my attention. They weren’t at their peak unfortunately. Except for Brooke, the head thing was awesome. And, before I forget, I also liked the switch of POVs; it gave the book a dynamic feel.

Now that I’m done with the good parts let’s get to the more interesting aspects, aka the bad ones.

“Those who loved Anna Dressed In Blood (aka me) will love Hold Me Closer, Necromancer. That’s the line that made me get this book. Add also the cool synopsis and nice cover. So I was expecting something badass, of course, but in the end the only similarity is the male protagonist. This doesn’t mean that being an ADIB* fan will automatically make me like this. It’s false, at least from my POV. Don’t get me wrong, HMCN** is great but overall it didn’t reach my expectations. I wanted something gloomier, creepier, more emo if you must!

Another aspect that I didn’t like was the werewolves. Blame me for expecting a freakin’ bloody story filled with dead bodies! Yes, yes it had blood and bodies but it wasn’t enough. I wanted more, dammit! And the weres*** are like a pair of red boots on a businessman: too distracting and can’t be taken seriously. They made the book feel divided in two: one for Sam the other for Brid. In the end it got unified but the effect didn’t grow on me.

So, I can state that I didn’t adore HMCN but I really liked certain things. I didn’t hate it but some parts got me bored. So it’s totally mixed feelings about this one. I guess I’ll go with the middle thing for the rating: three stars. The series has potential so I’ll be on the lookout for the next book.

P.S. What’s this ”Psh” sound Sam makes? Is it not a sound? Is it a form of alien communication? Me confused..

WARNING: If you’re actually into this genre and want a serious review avoid this. There be demons ahead!

You may think I’ve lost my mind for reading this but there’s a reasonable explanation for it. I’m in the mood to make fun of something. My friend Aly, who’s a huge fan of historical romance novels, couldn’t finish this. So of course I did the obvious thing.

No, I didn’t kill it with fire you silly monkeys. I got the book and set out to read it just to make fun of it. You know, make the routine go away and all that.

It had nothing to do with the chick wanting to bang Death. Absolutely nothing to do with that.

So what I was expecting? Cults, necrophilia, suicide, curses and floating underwear. Of course I skimmed most of it (I can’t handle reading a historical romance without skimming) while hunting for some creepy scenes. What I got? A cheesy pun loving peeping tom Death and a desperate female novelist owning a sick imagination. Meh!

I actually found some pretty good stuff around here. Let’s have a look!

"Am I to die?" I asked, and he stopped, raised our joined hands to his mouth and gently kissed my knuckles.
"You are, my love, and in your sleep, you will become Death's bride."

The Darkest Night is a fun introduction to a new series (for me at least) that goes around demons, crazy people, violence, hot drooly (yes, I mean it as drool-y - it should be a word, it’s awesome) sex and extreme redecorating. But we all love crazy people don’t we? And violence. And sex. And hotties. Beats the hell out of watching Animal Planet.

Even though the book was a great read I found many problems regarding it. It stars with the typical PNR problem: the ease with which they hooked up. I’d like some more obstacles please! Then there’s the true love conquers all problem. They’ve known each other for a few days so true love is out of the question. What is it then? Lust? Desperation? Drugs? Noodles? You tell me.

I didn’t like Ashlyn because she is too dependent. First Macintosh* (lol) whatever his name and then Maddox. Plus she was always taking things too lightly. First Maddox has sex with her and then locks her up because he has stuff to do. What’s her reaction? She gets a wee bit angry and then says to herself "Meh, still want him, he’s hot". Not cool. And after being his captive she still falls for him. While this is a classic move for most romance novels, I have to admit that I don’t agree with it. You simply don’t fall for the assh*le who’s keeping you prisoner unless you’re into BDSM or something. Plus he’s a demon and he’s violent and creepy. He may be hot but still, come on! Exaggerated much?

Maddox is… special. Even though he has a wall punching problem, tends to destroy most things around him and is a serial killer, he’s pretty cool. I mean how often do you find a guy who knows how to repair stuff? And he’s hot. I mean duh! It’s PNR we’re talking about! Duh! And he like has powers and stuff. And he like kills people. And has a tattoo. I mean awesome, dude!

I’ve always wanted to be in the mind of a psychopath, there’s a certain depth to life in there. Let’s take some examples, shall we?

First there’s a typical “problem” between a husband and his wife.

Then there are some kids thrown along the way.

And finally the moments when you just sit back and relax.

(I could do this all day!) Yep. A pretty high chance of all this happening to the person marrying this guy.

Probably Maddox is like this because of sexual frustration. Once he gets laid properly his demon goes back to sleep.

Anyboob, the final score is 3.5 or 3.25 or 3.19999999999999. But that’s beside the point. The Darkest Night is a nice intro to what seems like a good series but it lacked action. As you know the action-eating monster living inside me needs to be fed so it wasn’t totally happy with the situation. Just one location and few to none proper action scenes don’t make a fun story. These warriors have potential so put ‘em to good use! Aaaaaaaaand it was a bit cheesy.

Why would anyone punch a dolphin in the face? That’s the main reason why I bought this book. I need answers! Many many answers to stack in my answer box and hide it in my secret chamber. These answers will make me rule the world one day! Mark my words!

As always, The Oatmeal offers a great variety of comics that will make you fall off the chair, roll ten times on the carpet then probably suffer a heart attack and die. Yes, they’re THAT good. From Canadian pets to peeing like a champ, sucking at Facebook, failed hugs and preparing your pets for war. All these essential things are stacked up and ready to be discovered only by the brightest minds on the planet. So if you have brains and eyes (hands are optional) put them to good use!

~~~ Before I start I should let you know that I made a little “explanation corner” at the bottom of my review. I think I’ll start using this more since I use funky words most people don’t understand. So if you see a “*” or something know what you should go to the bottom of the page blah blah blah you get it, you’re smart kids ~~~

I can’t express how happy I am right now. No no, calm down people, I’m not happy because this book is awesome. I’m happy because I’m finally done with it. My fire needs more stuff to burn so this book will do wonderfully.

How to best describe Drink Deep? Boring, disappointing, skimfest*, filler, you name it. I can’t believe I was so excited over this *facepalm* but how could I have known? Can you blame my naivety? Plus everyone was excited about it and many people gave it high ratings, of course I was bound to fall into this horrible trap. Anyhow, if you don’t want to read more of my review, stop here. Be warned you demons, the bitchiness starts now. Proceed at your own cost!

So let’s start with my problems. One, there is the fact that everyone’s too cool about Ethan dying. Hell even I suffered more than the characters in this damn book. Suffer you bitches!! Your god is gone!! Yes I want to see him come back; yes I like him more than I like Merit. Have a problem with that?

Two, why is Merit not funny anymore? Was she ever funny? I don’t even remember... all I know is that right now she’s one cold-hearted (pun intended) bitch. She’s so excited about Jonah. What the hell? She should be running away from him like he’s the plague! Spit in his face, throw holy water on him, idk**! Something! And then the dude tells her that his feelings are totally platonic and she believes him. Platonic my ass, you can obviously see that he’s drooling over her and is probably mind-raping her as we speak! Her stupidity is beyond judgment…

Four, why does this feel like the story being filled in just to cover a few more books? Oh wait, I have the answer for that. I’ve recently heard that there’s a contract on ten books for this series. Now I don’t know about you but I think that’s a pretty high number considering the series we’re talking about. Chicagoland Vamps isn’t complex enough to hold ten freakin’ books. This is book five and basically it’s total filler so guess what’s in store for us? Utter bullsh*t. *mumbles to herself* ten books pfff…

I actually don’t give a sh*t about the river turning black or the nymphs losing their magic or whatever. I want a relevant story, something that would interest me. This is not cool. That’s why I skimmed 70% of the book. Yes my dear kids, 70-f*cking-percent! Is this not a waste of time in your dictionary?

Five, it was too predictable. I was sure Mallory was responsible for all the creepy stuff going on. I didn’t like this of course, I see it as more filler to the pie. Also, the way Ethan came back wasn’t as dramatic as I thought it would be. I kept on expecting him to disappear and someone to pop up and scream ”April’s fools!” or something. But of course everything went back to normal in about 3 pages or so. *facepalm*

The ending was nice (not great, sadly) but it doesn’t make up for the rest of the book. If I wasn’t curious about Ethan I’d dnf*** this.

Started this too late, I know. But better late than duct-taped to a chair and forced to listen to Rebecca Black’s “Friday” on an endless loop!

I have to say that the people who organize these "games" are blood thirsty demons (you sick f*cks!)." Happy Hunger Games! Oh look ~~fresh meat~~ the new tribute. Rejoice everyone. ~~Dinner~~ entertainment is served!".

The story is brilliant and got to me in more ways than one. Most of all it got me hungry. All that talk about yum food made me turn into a brain eating zombie!!! Oh nooo!!!

Speaking of food and all… Will I burn in hell for thinking that all this starvation did well to the ever obese American children?

Oh well… back to more serious matters…

I liked Katniss’ attitude, her inner strength, the way she thinks, and the fact that she’s a realist. She has good logic and intelligence and isn’t even near the annoying level YA heroines usually reach. She is admirable and worthy of being a role model.

Quick question. Where are the cameras? I imagine something similar to Spiderman Shattered Dimensions. There was a level where Deadpool trapped Spiderman on a platform in the middle of the ocean and forced him to save the crew while cameras filmed his every move. The cameras used to have propellers and were always buzzing around being annoying just like mosquitos. I doubt they’re done this way in the book but that doesn’t stop me from imagining them this way. And Deadpool being the host... The perfect show! Oprah would self-combust because of jealousy!

The conclusion? A-f*ckin-mazing! Loved every second of it! Now I need a break, my brain circuits are dead because of the awesomeness that is The Hunger Games. Berries anyone?

Not such a big fan of cop stories. *looks at the series title* Uhm yeah... FBI heh? Well... I uhm... thought that... FBI stands for F*cking Bunch of Idiots… funny stuff... So you know why I thought it was a humorous book. *evil grin*

Nah, I kid the whole F*cking Bunch of Idiots gig. I like the sound of it but I doubt I’ll ever read a book that has that title. I was actually trying to give the theme/genre/whatever-you-wanna-call-it a second chance. My dear friends recommending this had nothing to do with it *dodges evil eyes from Aly and Dee*

Now to my main problem. Question of the day actually: Are we even talking about the same book? Anzu confused... Everyone gave it such a great score and I found it completely boring!

Cameron is annoying. Her jokes are not funny and her lines make you want to throw yourself in front of a stampede of demon llamas.

My utter dislike for Cameron may also be related to the fact that she likes The Black Eyed Peas and I hate the mere sight of them. Or maybe not. You can never know now, can you?

Jack seemed as great as a wall. Not much difference between the two of them. Perfect blending. Ooooh Jack, cut it out. Your jokes are so amazing! Hahahahaaaaaa! Wait did he move? Nah, false alarm.

Another problem of mine:

Where’s the sizzling-hot sexual tension? I failed to find it in the book. Helloooo? Anyone there? *echo echo echo*

Since I was sure the story will be mediocre I was expecting great characters and good humor. What do you think? Did I get these things? Huh? Of course not! Life doesn’t work like that...

How the hell am I supposed to review this without seeming sick or desperate?? I have no idea! …. But I’m going to try!

This was AMAZING! I was expecting it to be great, but there was still a part of me cringing at the idea that I might be too demanding and find out that it’s not so good. Well, it surpassed my expectations.

How can I best define Lola and the Boy Next Door?

I literally couldn’t put the book down. It got stuck to my hands. It became my hands. I was Edward Scissorhands but with Lola and the Boy Next Door books instead of hands. Legendary!

Plus having a stupid smile on while reading this… You must avoid reading it in public. People tend to think you’re weird if you smile like that all the time…

I loved Lola; she’s unique, spunky, smart and fun. Love her outfits, love her wigs, love her room, love her glitter and love her neighbor! Muahahahaha!

Speaking of the neighbor… Cricket is the cutest thing EVAR. Well, not the cutest. You know who you are *winks* But he made my day. And made me cry with his sweetness…. Dammit!!!

I love St. Clair and Anna, they are the sweetest couple. Everything in this book is damn sweet, I feel like hugging it and feeding it pie and *snuggle snuggle snuggle snuggle*

Mmmmmmmmmmmm *snuggle snuggle snuggle snuggle* with the guys…

Oh, God, why did it end??? I want more!!!! *punches a kid that’s passing by in the face*

My rating? A hundred stars! Which reminds me of Cricket’s gift for Lola, which I’m going to steal ASAP!!!

Well well… What can I say about this Awaken Me Darkly? It’s mostly typical UF to my entire disappointment. I like a good UF as any cool and important person but my dear Huntress of Aliens is not the most special kid in class. The story is mediocre BUT, and that’s a big butt, I’m fascinated by Gena’s writing style and Mia’s badass level. She’s a pro I tell you. Plus the white haired hottie is a bonus. Guess my sci-fi mood will shift into painting sci-fi guys with white hair and violet eyes. Gah I’m so predictable!

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIT!

Before you poke my eyes out with a spork I know this is NOT UF. Heh, actually…. Funny story there. Let me tell you how I got to think this is f*cking UF… And how I found out it isn’t…

So that’s my story… Pretty gruesome huh? ….. What I would give for a machinegun right now…

Aaanywhore, I’ve been judging the book as an UF and since the misunderstanding raped my mind I’ll take a star from its score. Because I’m cruel, that’s why!

Since I’m lazy to put my notes together I decided to make a reading diary. I will put the percentage (Kindle edition, no page numbers – sorry) I was in and my thoughts on the book. Fun, eeh?

13% - The idea of factions isn’t so bad. Tris is strange but I’m just at the beginning so can’t form an opinion yet. It was predictable that she’ll go for Dauntless. I’m not so impressed with the story so far.

19% - Four... I am number four... Hmmmm Alex Pettyfer *drools*

28% - I keep on seeing the vid for “She loves me not” by Pappa Roach. You know, Ferris wheel and abandoned theme park.

Love it!

39% - I certainly wasn’t expecting the story to be a Fight Club replica. I thought it would be about something else, like monsters eating people, Resident Evil style, or, I don’t know, some extreme survival test or something. Labeling sixteen year olds isn’t much fun I have to tell you that.

42% - Is there nothing good going on in this book????

51% - Finally I’m starting to like this! The whole Houdini act was pretty cool.

57% - Now how can’t I love this?

“You’re a little scary, Four.”
“Do me a favor,” he says, “and don’t call me that.”
“What should I call you, then?”
“Nothing.” He takes his hand from my face. “Yet.”

60% - I’m finally starting to like this little girl – no wait! False alarm.

75% - The only thing I like so far is Tobias and Tris hooking up. This isn’t supposed to be a romantic book. Ugh.

81% - I want more pain and suffering!

83% - Seriously?? Mindcontol?? Am I the only one who thinks this is stupid???

89% - Whoah I just got my pain and suffering wish... wtf?

90% - Waking them up should have been your first thought! DUH!

100% - *awkward silence* Yes!!! I’m done!!!! And it was utter bullsh*t!!!!

Now a bit of a summary, yes?

This book got so many praises that I was expecting something epic but at the same time a dark voice inside my head was whispering that it won’t meet my expectations. I’ve learnt to trust this dark voice. It knows things.

The story focused on the part that I was least interested in. Factions and initiation and all that crap. Meh. Biiiig meh. I want pain and struggle that goes with a nice story and not Fight Club Highschool Musical. I also want a nice heroine and not a timid frightened girl who all of the sudden sees that she’s the chosen one and BAM! She kicks everyone’s ass. I can’t relate to her. I didn’t like her, simple as that.

I won’t say “Omg I like the story” because, duh, Four is the hottest yummiest sweetest zomg I’m hyperventilating hot chocolate melting on his chest boy. He actually wasn’t so great, but since everyone loves a hero you’d say ”Aaaaah an extra star for the hottie”. No! we’re decent people on this land so no stars for hotties!

Aaaand what else? I won’t even comment on the ending. Mindcontrol??? I still can’t get over it. I feel like I’m watching the Disney Channel.

Sooo behold my cruelty! Two stars suckaz!!!

He mentally redressed her in a tight top, short skirt, and a pair of stiletto heels, then added black fishnet stockings for good measure. He’d never paid for sex in his life, but he decided he’d be more than happy to throw a little extra cash her way if she ever decided she needed to earn something on the side to pay for her kids’ orthodontics work.

This literally left me gaping… I mean I hate kids and all but this guy is exaggerated. Am I going to burn in hell for laughing at this? I just can’t help myself.

I’m going to pick even more on Kenny. *evil grin* Check this quote out:

He’d been maneuvering women all his adult life, and he’d never yet let one of them forget her proper place. Right underneath him.

Eeeeh? Do you love him now?? Oh my dear Kenny we’ll get along just fine. You tied up to a poll and me exercising some baseball bat swings on you. Good times. I lost count of the amount of facepalms I’ve used regarding him and his brilliant mind. Double the sarcasm there, just in case. BUT (there’s a big but in here) since Kenny hates Dallie, I guess that makes him on my side right? I think I’m getting to like this guy.

Emma and Kenny have perf-*Latino tune playing in the background* Ugh I can’t say the words anymore without thinking of Latino teens. But here goes. They have perfect chemistry *Latino tune playing in the background* Could someone please turn that damn tune off!!

“Now this is where I draw the line! It’s bad enough everybody in town’s going to be thinkin’ I’m sleeping with a depressed, lice-ridden, hemorrhoidal foreigner who likes to be tied up and might be pregnant, although—since she’s just about cornered the market on condoms—I don’t know how that could have happened. But I will not —you listen to me, Emma!—I absolutely will not have anybody thinkin’ a woman of mine needs a vaginal moisturizer , do you hear me?”

What did I tell you? Perfect chem- *Latino tune playing in the background*

Alrighty then I’m glad that’s over… Let’s get back to our characters! Hmmmm who else? I love Dex. Simply adore him! He totally stole the spotlight from Kenny. Beddington is a sonofabitch. Hated his guts and hated Emma for taking sh*t from him. I’d just kick him where it hurts the most and throw him in a river. Hope that he would drown or something.

And Ted...

Well, what’s the easiest way to say this? MINE!!!

I ADORE Susan Elizabeth Phillips and think her books are the best in the contemporary romance genre. At least for what I’ve read so far. The story is hilarious! Grab it and ~~spank~~ read it!

But… it still wasn’t what I wanted. Dammit it’s difficult to find a good sci-fi romance full of action, adventure, drama and emotional moments and less on thoughts about how hot the dude you’re drooling is. Yes Alix, that’s you.

“You want me to reset the machine?”
No. I want to ride you until you’re begging me for mercy. Clearing her throat, she tried to shove that image out of her mind.
“That would be great. Thanks.”
And strip off the rest of your clothes while you’re doing that.

Anyways, I still loved the crew and I want to be a part of it and live on the ship and be a cool copilot and go to dangerous missions and have an exciting life while visiting different planets. Ugh I so hate my life right now...

I liked Devyn and his whole multiple personality disorder. That’s what his attitude meant to me. He’s a good guy in a second and then the next he turns psycho and kills ten guys with only a fork. Yep, he’s that good. Now I may be sick but two faced people fascinate me. They offer variety so you don’t get bored easily. Plus, as all of SK’s characters, he’s a hot motha so of course all the ladies are drooling over him. But that’s not important. He’s just too perfect perky and shiny. I mean yeah he had a normal life, he’s a mamma’s boy (wtf?? So not cool!) and got raised in a very good environment. I’m surprised he didn’t end up a pansy after all this pampering. Cruel but the cool heroes have childhood issues. And psychopaths also but let’s not ruin the fun.

Alix is... strange? At first I thought she’s sweet and felt bad for her childhood issues but she didn’t make a good heroine. I didn’t feel a connection to her nor Devyn, while I’m at it. They lacked chemistry and their “feelings” (love especially) didn’t seem genuine. But that doesn’t mean that they weren’t fun together. Nothing too fancy.

Aaaaaaaand Nero ♥ he’s my boy-toy in this series!

Well *sighs* I wanted more action and a better story. I have to admit that this is the typical thing you find these days in romance novels. Guy meets girl, love/lust whatever at first sight, girl has to screw guy over to save family from death, guy finds out but forgives her, guy and girl join forces to battle the boogeyman. Is it just me or does this book resemble the majority of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s stories? Or maybe just The League series? I have nooo idea but it’s still a fun book to read.

I wasn’t so excited to start this book. Why? It may sound shallow but it was the title. Yes, I thought “Oh demon lover, typical romance story. *yawns* Boring stuff”. But (again shallow, I know) the cover was great and I had to make sure it’s alright by reading the summary. After it passed inspection I requested the galley. After a few days I got the confirmation email *happy dance* and started reading. And I had such a wonderful surprise. The story was amazing (I probably was in the mood for some nice paranormal romance – but it turned out to be more of an urban fantasy so never mind that) and the book seemed to be a gold mine.

Demon Lover has a bit of a fairytale-ish feel to it. Fall in love, break the spell, get married, live happily ever after with your 10 kids, one dog, three cats and a pet hamster. I’m a sucker for these stories, so I was having the time of my life, as you can imagine. This lasted for about 25% of the book, the rest ending up mediocre.

I’m so angry that the book didn’t continue on the Road of Awesomeness it walked on at the beginning. I can still see the scene in front of the house, heavy rain falling down and Callie seeing the beautiful demon’s face between the droplets. It got stuck to my mind. *sighs*

But back to reality. Why am I so disappointed? Good question. The book got into too many details. It made me feel like I’m watching Lost again (and I’m not happy about this, trust me). So many mysteries and very few answers. All this made me feel confused and close to getting a headache.

Callie was a normal heroine. Nothing much was standing out with her. I didn’t love nor hate her. I actually find it difficult to make an opinion on her, how strange is that? Liam (duh) and Ralph (yes, I’m talking about the mouse) are my favorite characters.

Thinking about it, I didn’t actually love (aka obsess about) any characters in the book. I either liked them or was having neutral feelings towards them. I was excited about the incubus at the beginning but since the story morphed into something else he was gone. *sniff*

Some characters were nice but some seemed useless. Probably there will be more books to come and they will have an important part in them. But speaking of Demon Lover, they didn’t please me. I got bored pretty often while reading the book.

Ah and before I forget, more scenes with the incubus please!

The ending made the book earn an extra star. It was too much of a tease but it made me want to read the next book. I guess I’ll be keeping an eye on this series.

He must travel over a hundred miles in a landscape transformed by a foot of ash and the destruction of every modern convenience that he has ever known, and through a new world in which disaster has brought out both the best and worst in people desperate for food, water, and warmth. With a combination of nonstop action, a little romance, and very real science, this is a story that is difficult to stop reading and even more difficult to forget.

I have to admit that I had high expectations regarding this. The whole idea revolving around a supervolcano seemed exceptional and I was really curious to read the book. I was lucky enough to be given Ashfall as a digital galley in order for me to review it.

My first thought on the book was related to how terrifying some aspects were. The lack of sun, total darkness, roaring sounds. And that was just the beginning. Mike Mullin’s version of world destruction is brilliant.

The story is brutal and it managed to affect me emotionally in many ways. It mostly got me sad. People dying, even turning into monsters, chaos reining our world and the environment being destroyed are difficult things to handle.

Alex was having a normal day when BOOM! Something hits his house and almost causes him to burn to death. And that’s how it all starts. Don’t worry, I won’t spoil anything, I’ll just pick on the most important aspects that made me fall in love with this book.

I love the fact that Alex is so - how to put it? Human? He’s not one of those typical YA heroes that gets through everything so easily just because he’s the chosen one or something cheesy like that. No, this kid succeeds through intelligence, courage and strong will. He shows that it’s worth fighting for your loved ones even in the toughest situations. You can see throughout the book how he grows from a normal, scared even, boy who spends most his time collecting treasures in WoW to a young man fighting the apocalypse in order to see his family again.

Mrs. Edmunds and Darla were dear to me also. They showed great kindness in helping Alex when they could have left him die. This shows that good people still exist between us and maybe if one day a supervolcano does erupt we could at least have hope of finding help somewhere.

It’s sweet how Darla and Alex ended up being together. I really admired their relationship, the familiarity of it and how attached they got to each other by the end.

I strongly recommend Ashfall; you won’t regret reading it.

This book started out with an interesting concept: the end of the world, survival of the fittest. I’m actually fascinated by a human’s limits of endurance and the idea of people mutating and developing different powers was really well developed. Evolution is something captivating and Traci L. Slatton managed to create an awe-inspiring universe using these elements.

Fallen made me appreciate things on a different level. I sit now and think of how I’d manage an apocalypse in my life and see how unprepared I’d be. I guess survival of the fittest will set its toll in the end.

Beside the great story and emotional moments we have a multitude of interesting characters. I’m not such a big fan of Emma though. Sure she’s having a tough time coping with disaster and I have to admit that I actually admire the strength she proves but she tends to be bitchy and controlling. I’m sure anyone in that position would be similar to her or worse so I won’t judge her.

Arthur and Emma’s relationship is sweet; I like the familiarity of it. I feel like I share their feelings because I was with them on their journey since square one. Arthur is actually my favorite character. I guess I have a soft spot for alphas.

I’m an action junkie and this book is pretty passive, especially in the beginning. This will explain why I won’t give it a perfect score.

The ending was very good and it greatly intensified my curiosity to know what happens next. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.

Just your average boy-meets-girl, girl-kills-people story. . .

I started this with very high expectations. Everyone kept giving it high ratings, most of my friends were already reading it and talking about it between each other. I felt left alone! So I said f*ck it I’ll drop my current to-read list and start it. Good call that was.

Now how can I review Anna Dressed in Blood without acting like a total fangirl? Oh how about some pretty pictures that reflect my experience?

A-f*cking-mazing!! I was having the time of my life while reading this!

A love story between a boy and a ghost… That was a new one for me. Am I wrong for finding it romantic and not gross? Their [spoiler] kiss was the cutest thing ever! Cas is sooo badass, I developed a crush on him. I know I’m acting like a worked-up teenager over this book but I don’t care. I deserve this!!

I fell in love with the characters, fell in love with the town and fell in love with ghost stories again. It’s a wonderful feeling. And it got me searching for more books similar to this one (Hold Me Closer Necromancer is next on my list). Kendare Blake has such a brilliant mind. This won’t be the last book I read for her. And as for this series, I’m damn excited to read more. And btw 2012 is just cruel!

This book was like a carrousel ride for me. It had so many ups and downs that by the end I didn’t know what to think of it. I started with lots of hatred towards the main characters and bit by bit I got to love some. Others.. well they constantly sucked. Yes Dallie, I’m talking about you.

When I started Fancy Pants I had something in mind. A bit of comedy, a feisty heroine and a jackass hero. Hell, the typical Susan Elizabeth Phillips stuff. *excitement excitement*

Soooo I was reading and reading. Strange things going on. Nothing like the Susan Elizabeth Phillips books I’ve read so far. But the eternal believer in me knew the good stuff was coming. And then I stumbled into this:

“Anything in life was permissible … as long as she looked pretty doing it.”

Aaaand this:

“I’m worried about you, Mummy. There are circles under your eyes, and you look tired all the time. You’ve also been impossible to live with. Only yesterday you brought home the beige Givenchy kimono for me instead of the silver one I asked you to get.”

*awkward silence*

So uhmm… How to best explain the transition of my feelings?

I hated Francesca’s guts, as you can imagine. I wasn’t happy with having a heroine who was a complete idiot. Of course I kept on cursing and then reading some more and then cursing again. Soon after that something bad happened to our favorite girlie girl. Of course I was immature about it and thought that I caused her mum’s accident. Muahaahaaha. I was at least trying to enjoy myself by being happy because of her suffering. The normal thing to do in my case, trust me.

And then Dallie appeared. My first (and last) image of him:

My Dallie is a perfect replica of Brad Pitt. I don’t care what you think! I don’t wanna hear it! *covers ears* Lalalalalalalalaaaaa!

So of course I liked the dude in the beginning. He seemed cool and funny. Plus him being an ass to Francesca got him on my good graces. But then I got to know him a lot better and I ended up hating his guts. I know, right? How can I hate his guts when he looks like that? Well, I consider myself a strong person and- yeah you’re probably right. I’ll cut the crap. He actually sucked that much! I ended up switching places between Francie and him. Heh, how the hell did that happen?

That’s actually a good question. How the hell did I end up liking that bimbo?? Well first of all it was nice seeing Francie evolve into an actual person. I had an inner battle where I kept screaming at myself for getting soft whenever she was suffering. So you can imagine I was like “Must...not...feel...bad...for....evil...Francesca....” *a scene where she has to clean toilets* ”Aaaawwwww Francesca poor thing!!!!!”

It felt nice growing up with Francesca. I got to hate her, admire her and in the end love her. It felt intimate and wonderful.

Gerry is awesome; loved him. He was my favorite character. Teddy is great too. A silent killer, I have to respect that. I even ended up liking Holly Grace. Imagine that!

The book was oozing drama so I have to admit this is not one of Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ best. I like her books to be a bit lighter than this. I was thinking of giving it three stars but the ending deserves an extra one.

Oh and I still hate Dallie’s guts. Must kill. Now.

I can’t believe how difficult it was for me to finish this!

Looking at all the good reviews this book has made me wonder why on earth I didn’t like it. Since I don’t want to be unfair or moody (or God knows what’s wrong with me these days) I said I’ll take a piece of paper and a pen, draw two columns, one with the things I liked and one with the things I didn’t like. So I did just that and placed my likes and dislikes there, drew the final line and compared results. Since I’m a nice girl I will share those results with you.

Things I didn’t like:

- Liv is annoying.

- Cam’s POV ruins the "guess the dude’s feelings for the chick" game.

- The book tends to go towards marriage counseling and not action packed adventure.

- The desperate look Cam has each time he lays eyes on Liv.

- For an unknown reason it got me sleepy each time I was trying to read it. My total fell-asleep-while-reading-this number ended up being four. Seriously is this normal??? Do you remember Tom (Tom & Jerry) not wanting to fall asleep and using matches to keep his eyelids up? I’m going to try to fetch and image if I can find one.

(lucky me, I did!)

That’s exactly what I’m doing right now. My eyes are betraying me!

- I’m not a fan of the story. I didn’t like it.

- Switching between the characters’ POV got confusing at times.

- Too predictable.

Things I liked:

- Cam was a nice hero. Not the best but ok.

- Interesting concept. Who needs chips when you can rack a person by blood.

Omg, right? Those are the things I liked… Not cool.

Close to the end I was stuck between giving it one star or two stars. So I said if I solve the "who’s the father" puzzle I’ll give it one star. If I don’t I’ll give it two stars.

Before I start I have to pick on the cover. Would you look at that! It’s simply gorgeous! My respect to the artist who painted it.

It’s been a while since the last time I’ve read a Mercy Thompson book. I was a bit afraid that I’d miss certain details because of this but thankfully I didn’t.

I don’t know why it’s always difficult for me to write a review for this series. I get so sucked into the books that I stop making notes about it while reading. And after I’m done with the book I keep telling myself ”Wow! This was sooo good!” but when I open Word to start writing the review I stare at the blank page while having a stupid face because nothing comes out. It’s a curse I tell you!!

Anyways, here are some thoughts on this.

The story is really emotional and sucked me in since the beginning. This series is getting better and better. It was the cure to my readers block.

I’ve always loved Mercy. She’s brilliant, strong and independent. Makes me wanna take her as a role model. Heh! Mercy and Adam are so damn awesome together; I really respect their relationship. Sam was strange but I was happy that he got over the “problem” he had. The pack was great; we got lots of action and emotional moments with it.

And of course an awesome ending was the perfect topping!

Ugh I sound like a robot lol!

I have to admit that I didn’t start this with a smile on my face. My first thought when I saw this spinoff start was “But why?"

I have a problem with authors (and not only) milking their products too much. That was exactly my impression when I saw this book. But then I said “Hey, maybe I’m wrong. Maybe this will be the start of something beautiful.” Broken dreams…

This is why my review will consist of more images than text. What better means to express my wonderful feelings for this book? Yeeii!!!!

Let’s make a summary now, shall we?

I’m sorry was this supposed to be a book or the diary of a boring kid? Gah, stupid story! It was plain old boring!
Sydney could never be another Rose and Bloodlines will never be another Vampire Academy. I thought this spinoff was useless when I first saw it and I know now that I was right.
They took the most boring characters, minus Adrian of course, and placed them all together. The poor dude can’t make the book good now, can he?
I’m not going to give the book a good score just because Adrian is in it.
A total waste of time! I’m so not continuing this series…

Wow. First of all I have to say that I was a bit surprised to know the series turned into PNR. Silly me for not reading the synopsis (duh). I was a bit worried about this though. I’m a big fan of the Guild Hunter books and giving up another series would get me really angry. The whole UF to PNR twist was two sided for me. I like it because I always wanted to get in Dmitri’s psycho head and I hate it because the series is too cool to be turned into a cheesy PNR. Thank you Nalini Singh for creating a nice UF-PNR hybrid! Totally love it!

It’s fascinating to see what makes big ol’ Dmitri tick. I mean the dude’s hot but a total assh*le. If I had to think what kind of woman would suit Dmitri, and I mean suit as in the big L word, I couldn’t think of the right answer. It’s mostly because I don’t know the guy so well. He spreads the whole killer/playboy aura all round but it’s obvious it’s only a facade. So seeing Hope surprised me. I was expecting someone brutal probably. A chick that would kick ass and scream all day long. You probably figured out why I’m surprised. Poor Hope is a wounded animal and she’s actually afraid of Dmitri most of the time. It will take time and lots of trials to get in her pants. Of course that’s what Dmitri wants, no surprise there. Typical PNR. But I appreciate the nicely put obstacles. If they’d fall for each other like idiots I’d probably end up punching someone in the face.

Sad to say I’ve read the previous Guild Hunter months ago and don’t remember Honors accident so well. Maybe I’ll schedule a re-read later on.

The nice thing about the book is both characters being scarred. This makes the story sorrowful and emotional. They evolved together, I could see why they fell in love and the ending was heartbreaking and yet really beautiful. [Like a friend said, I’m into mental S&M or something. I just love scarred people. Sue me!]

I am so surprised by Green-Eyed Demon. When I finished the previous book I was thinking of reading this just for the sake of knowing how it will end. Or evolve since there are two more books coming out. And then I started reading having a bored face and cringing a bit when thinking that I’ll get to taste some more of Sabina’s “sexy” attitude.

And then this happened:

Nah I’m kidding, don’t worry. There was no creepy Japanese person rubbing a bunny against his face in the book. At least as far as I remember.

My question to Sabina right now would be: “Who are you and what have you done with Sabina?” She is a totally different person. Probably if she’d be more perfect than this I’d say Jaye Wells actually did a reboot on her. Maybe she did but not 100%. Of course she still has some attitude issues but at least she’s acting like a heroine now. And an actual person/trampire. I have to admit that the change was rather sudden but it worked wonders for the book.

We also had a nice amount of Adam in the mixture. The lovebirds had way better chemistry this time. Too bad Sabina is manlier than him. We also had lots of new interesting characters. Some I liked more than others. Giguhl was still meh. I lost my hope of him getting out of this annoying phase.

I probably shouldn’t have been offended that a zombie just shooed off an opportunity to eat my brains, but I had to admit it stung.

Heh! Loved that quote. One extra star for the zombies. What? I have a weak spot for them.

Damn, Jaye Wells surpassed herself *grabs tissue and blows nose* What? I just got something in my eye.

The Mage in Black (Sabina Kane #2)

Sabina Kane doesn't have the best track record when it comes to family. After all, her own grandmother, the leader of the vampire race, just tried to kill her. When she arrives in New York to meet the mage side of her family, the reunion takes the fun out of dysfunctional.

On top of that, the Hekate Council wants to use her as a pawn in the brewing war against the vampires. Her mission will take her into the bowels of New York's Black Light district, entangles her in mage politics, and challenges her beliefs about the race she was raised to distrust. And Sabina thought vampires were bloodthirsty.

I started reading this EXACTLY after finishing the latest Night Huntress book. This will explain my harsh review.

I had so many problems with this book that I have no idea where to begin. The start was too sudden. I’m a sucker for action but give me some time to adjust don’t just hit me in the head like this. I could get over this if the story would turn into something interesting and not mindless action. It didn’t. Eventually things got so boring that I lost interest in the book. Hell at a point I didn’t get what the story was about. Demon Fight-Club? Not what I wanted to find, I’ll tell you this. I was totally uninterested to read about the damn boxing matched between Giguhl and the rest of the demons. Give me a damn story please and quit screwing around!

I’ve always skipped the whole training on Eye of The Tiger moments in movies. They bore me especially since there’s no fun in them. Most of the book revolves around something like this. Damn boring I tell you!! At the end I felt that the story was close to useless.

Here’s an image to show you my opinion on this:

In the previous book Sabina seemed cool. I was actually amused by her messed up personality. It lasted for only the first book. Now she’s the same assh*le as before and instead of being amused I’m getting annoyed. A character should evolve with each book. She’s actually going the other way around. She acts like a big ass assassin but when faced with new knowledge or the chance for a fresh start she acts like she’s in primary school. Not the kind of heroine I would admire.

I guess Sabina’s attitude problem comes from the deep and desperate need to get laid. ~ SPOILER CTRL + A to read~ Which she has. By the wrong guy. I don’t know how to feel about what happened between her and Slade.

I still don’t understand why they didn’t kill her grandma in the previous book. It makes no sense. Sabina left her live just so she could show off with what a bad girl she is hanging with the mages and all that?

I used to like Giguhl but in The Mage in Black he’s simply annoying. Slade was ok and Maisie was neutral.

AAAAAAAAAAA my ears!! They bleed!!!

I seriously don't recommend this audiobook. The story - meh. The lady talking - meeeh! Her "Italian" accent cracked me up. The result? MEH! Me don't likey. At all! It's tooo close to BDB. I thought maybe this one will change a bit but I was wrong.

I've been listening to the audiobook while working. My first audiobook *yei* Not so bad I guess (if you ignore the sexy lady talking). It’s easier to be distracted while listening to this. Better to cope with the ~~bullsh*t~~ story. *ahem*

I'm not in the mood for PNR lately. I want a book that offers a deeper story and a bit more of a tease when it comes to the relationship between the main characters. Midnight Breed is a mediocre series. I try so hard but can’t get myself to like it. I’ve read worse books of course and this probably isn’t the worst in the genre but *British accent* not my cup of tea! Maybe it gets better later on but I don't have the patience to read all 10 books in order to get something good. I'll probably (big probably there my friends) give the next book a try later one when my mood improves.

Sooooo… One star. Sorry Dante, love the name but that doesn’t make up for anything.

Aaaaaah *smells the book* the sweet smell of one of my favorite drugs. I’m addicted to this series. And I have a major crush on Bones. There I said it! So imagine how excited I was about this. Hell I was counting down the days until it got released. *sigh* I kind of regret it now.

The score I’m going to give it will be a bit cruel. I really wanted to give it a perfect one but I can’t. It doesn’t compare to the previous ones. *prays* Please don’t ruin another series for me! I’ve already have a couple of them ruined this year.

I was wondering if Jeaniene Frost will manage to write a book that will kick ass even so deep into the Night Huntress series. Well, how to answer that… This book kicks ass story-wise (even if it’s a bit forced), but character-wise it doesn’t.

The story was spooky and pretty awesome. The villain, Kramer, was a very good creation. Cruel and sadistic, he managed to get me angry a lot. Hell, that’s a good thing. Madigan was also a b*tch and I’m sure we’ll get more of him in the next books. I can’t help hating his guts. Ugh he was annoying.

I love Cat and Bones. They’re the best book couple in my opinion; they make such a great team. But I felt that in One Grave at a Time they were strange. Cat was ok, I didn’t mind her much, but Bones was in a really strange mood. They lacked that “heat” that made them such a great couple. It seemed like they were old people being married for 20 years or something. They seemed so used to each other that everything they do together gets synchronized perfectly. That’s not a bad thing; I actually admire this in people. But in a book? Meh. A bit more “spice” please!

Ian was awesome! It was a delight seeing him make an appearance. Fingers crossed for a book dedicated to him.

I missed Vlad though. I can’t wait to get my hands on his book.

One of the other things I need to pick on is the cover. Why isn’t Bones on it next to Cat? I don’t agree with placing the damn cat there. I get that it had a slightly (or whatever) important role in the story but Bones had a major one. Wouldn’t it be fair that he would be there instead of the animal? I’m just sayin’.

And now for another episode of useless wondering! Here goes! Why can vampires hear ghosts but when the ghost used a cell phone they only hear white noise? Isn’t the sound of their voice supposed to travel even through this means? And am I the only one who thinks corn fields are freaky? Seriously, horror movie much?

Oh and before I forget. Mrs. Frost can we get a Night Huntress graphic novel? Pleaseeee???

P.S. I need to reread the series. The voices in my head are demanding it a lot lately.
